Tushingham Ultra Pro 100 mast 2009

This mast is special! Based on the Pro Series 100, with added ceramic reinforcements down the sides, which make this mast 20% stiffer sideways than in the fore and aft direction. The IMCS stiffness remains the same, as does the compatibility with a given sail, but the extra sideways stiffness has a big effect on the way the rig works. When a gust hits, the mast is free to flex fore and aft in the normal way, but energy is not lost as a result of inefficient sideways movement at the mast tip. This translates directly into extra performance, more 'squirt' from every gust, there's a visible difference and a direct increase in acceleration. Currently not allowed for course racing the Ultra is the first choice for speed or slalom where the regulations permit!
