Nobile 555 2009
// freeride improved performance
Nobile and Mr Shinn have been hard at work pushing the T5 performance forward. It's a tough nut to crack as with more performance usually comes specialisation and handling issues; the 555 was already widely renowned for it's manners and versatility as well as performance. The answer came in a subtle change to the shaping and new core composites... Nobile explain;
After 4 years of continuous research, testing and development we took a step back and re evaluated the goals for Nobile’s infamous 555 (T5) board range. We may have created the world’s best selling kiteboard, but with clearly defined goals in mind there is always room for improvement. Over and over again we came back to the same design parameters… ease of use, comfort and relevant performance. The development of our NEW '09 Composite Core 2 (90% wood and 10% honeycomb) has allowed us to improve the legendary comfort factor with out losing the board’s lively performance, and once perfected, the addition of our new Dynamic Asymmetrical Outline to the existing Elliptical Progressive Concave, and Anti Vibration Technology, has increased the versatility even further. The new T5 offers the ultimate in freeride ease of use with performance you’ll never grow out of. - Composite Core 2 Technology and a new 3-D Deck mould allowing better flex control
- Dynamic Asymmetrical Outline increases versatility and comfort
- Wider stance options for more stable riding position
- Fin Shims for stronger fin/board connection
- More comfortable and easier to ride with no loss of planing or upwind performance.
- Full year warranty against breakage.

In Detail;

The Human Concept - Dynamic Assymetrical Outline - Nobile explain:

You can’t escape the fact that our kite-boarding stances are not symmetrical; can you ride the same on your toe side and heel side edges? If not, then you have to ask yourself why your board has the same outline and fin position on the heel side and toe side edges.
Nobile’s Dynamic Asymmetrical Outline is designed around their 'Human Concept', performance that is destined to enhance and work in harmony with your natural physiology, not fight against it. They've tailored the outline on your stronger heel side rail to have more grip, better upwind performance and maximum POP. On the weaker toe side, they've increased the curve radius and bought the fins closer to your feet improving the carving potential and comfort factor of the board when riding switch whilst at the same time radically decreasing the foot pressure needed to hold your edge.

Fin Shims

No matter how carefully you ride anyone can have an accidental contact with the beach or other solid objects, the resulting board damage and fin loss can be frustrating not to mention ruining a good session. Our new Fin shims distribute the load placed on the heads of the screws across the wider surface of the deck of the board protecting your board from damage in all but the most extreme situations. In addition for 2009 the the length of the fin bolts has been increased.

Elliptical Progressive Concave

Exclusively featured on all Nobile kiteboards since they introduced the concept in 2006, the Elliptical Progressive Concave combines the advantages of both a flat-bottomed board and concave. The tail area of the board is completely flat allowing the board to flex in the controlled fashion defined by us during testing to enhance control, comfort and performance whilst the centre section of the board has up to 5mm of concave providing earlier planing, extra rail grip and a smoother ride.

Composite Core 2

New for 2009 is the Composite Core 2 Technology composed of 90% Wood and 10% Honeycomb. The Wood element provides consistent, predictable flex response with un-paralleled strength and when combined with the strategically placed honeycomb the CC2 ensures the lightest, most durable board available with anti-vibration control.

Complete Anti-vibration Control

It’s a little known fact that proper flex control in a kiteboard is not solely restricted to the decks overall deflection in response to pressure. Variable flex zones, flex response speeds and vibration control are all equally important factors. Fast flex response speeds can raise the performance characteristics of a board but can cause rail “chatter” at speed leading to a loss of rail grip and a general lack of comfort. Reducing this “chatter” or vibration through the use of advanced core materials and laminates provides exceptional rail grip in all conditions and increases ride comfort and control.

UV Resistant Foils

Having the best performing (and best looking?) board on the market won’t stop the feelings of disappointment if the colours start to fade after 6 months use. Nobile UV resistant foils ensures your board will look as good in six months as the day it came out of the wrapper.

Tip Rocker Profilers

Every Nobile Twin tip is supplied with patented Tip Rocker Profilers. Whilst theories abound regarding the purpose of these small white profilers the answer is simple. Should you have trouble with excessive spray in your face, simply insert the profilers between the heel side fins and the board. This will slightly alter the board's trim angle eliminating the spray from your eyes whilst riding.

3-D Top Mould

Nobile was the pioneer of 3-D Top Mould design in kiteboarding and we continue to research and improve the technology. 3-D Top moulds allow precise control of the flex pattern in all boards (both end to end AND torsional flex) as well as controlling the movement in the various different Flex zones.

Nobile IFS-PRO the worlds first triple density footbed.

The IFS system introduced at the start of the 2008 year model is still going strong, but for the last year or so Mark Shinn and the Nobile team have been working on an updated and uprated pro model. High end riders who were forwarding their riding further and further have been pushing the Standard IFS as far is it will go and a new uprated model was required! The result is the IFS-Pro as seen below and we have just seen the first delivery into the UK.
The IFS pro is manufactured in a trainer factory (running and sport shoes) and is the first triple density (three different core components) pad, designed to offer high level shock absorption, maximum comfort, and total foot stability.
There is a lot to the footbed and strap that misses the eye on first glance. The visual aspect is always important but it the technology behind what you see is ultimately far more imortant and that has had a huge amount of work.. for example;
- The IFS is made in a specific 3D CNC'd moulds, shaped to your foot as opposed to a flat block of foam that is shaped by sanding. This construction allows very precise control and cost effective detailed moulding of the core materials.
- It uses three different density cores, which;
Shape compression areas; to ensure you always have reserve compression for extremely high impacts on already heavy loadings, saving both board and joint damage,
Support distribution loadings, to make sure the harder you push the more locked in your feet stay. Infact, when the pad is loaded it pushes your foot further into the strap and pad to make sure you stay locked in.
Allow soft skin compression, which makes you foot nestle into position keeping the board on your feet during zero loading (ie jumping).
- It also uses a new technology of footstrap. The IFS pro strap core is a heat formed polyurethane molding much like a trainer base, but with far less density. Normal straps are made with solid flat material, shaped in 2D but not in thickness or form. If you look closely at the IFS strap you will see the internal construction is very advanced offering new technology in support, comfort and security. Now both upper and lower sections of the IFS base are specifically molded to wedge your foot in place.
The pad is designed for the nobile boards, but can be used on any other board that has a distance between the centre of the footstrap inserts of 15.5cm.
All nobile boards are now available with or without the IFS pro, which is an option at £20 extra. The price for the IFS Pro footbed system sold separately is £69.95
